Comedy Writing 101: Learn to Write

Course Description
* SOLD OUT * (send us a message to get on the waitlist for the next round: classes@improv-la.com) Writing is just "improv in slow motion" it's about taking those funny everyday observations and giving them a permanent home. This six-week class is a crash-course in the art of comedy writing, designed for absolute beginners in our signature supportive environment. If you’ve ever loved the spark of an improv scene and wished you could bottle it up, this is for you. In today’s fast-paced world, the best skill you can have is brevity. We focus on short, punchy pieces that help you find your voice, sharpen your wit, and get your ideas noticed - whether you want to share them on stage, on social media, or just in your daily life. Get ready to learn a LOT: - How to turn "shower thoughts" and small observations into actual stories and content. - Learn to build five different types of scenes that exist in comedy - Experience a collaborative "writers room" where we "Yes, And" each other’s ideas to make them even better. - See how your favorite shows are built as we deconstruct them so you can use those same tools yourself. - Create recurring characters and short-form pieces perfect for sharing on socila media or anywhere else. - Master "Win/Win" persuasive pitching techniques to share your ideas with confidence and clarity. No prior writing or comedy experience is necessary. Zero. None. This class is for anyone with an interest in creativity - even if it’s just for a fun new hobby. Each student will also receive FREE curated video resources to enhance their overall learning experience. Class Size: Limited to 12 students to ensure you get plenty of individual feedback. Length: Sessions are 3 hours, and meets for 6 weeks in-person.* Assignments: Weekly fun writing assignment with free software options provided Must be 18 years of age or older to join. *Important: You must attend Week 1 (Foundations Class). Missing it means you can’t continue with the course and no refunds/transfers will be possible. All other Terms apply.

Courses are non-refundable unless otherwise required by law. • Transfers may be possible (not guaranteed) if requested by email at least 7 days before your course begins, depending on availability. A $35 fee applies. Transfers expire 30 days after being offered. One-Day transfers are available only up into 48 hours before class. • One-time mistaken registrations may be refunded within 24 hours, minus a $30 fee. • Natural disasters, local emergencies, or others beyond our control do not qualify for refunds, but transfers will be offered when possible (fee waived). • Missing or being late to 3+ classes means you’ll be removed and not pass the course. Notes are available if you miss up to 2 classes with prior notice. (This applies to repeat student as well) • Instructors may change due to professional commitments. No refunds or transfers are available for instructor changes. • Participation is voluntary and involves inherent risks. You assume full responsibility for your participation, including physical or emotional injury. • We reserve the right to remove students for inappropriate or harmful conduct, with no refund, to maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment. • Harassment, boundary-crossing, or discriminatory behavior will not be tolerated and may result in permanent removal. • Photos or videos may be used in Improv-LA marketing unless you opt out by emailing classes@improv-la.com with your class info. • Coupon codes must be applied at checkout and cannot be added retroactively.
